Why marathon running is insanity. Round 13.

Some people ask the ether, "why on earth would you run a marathon?" I too, asked this perplexing question and couldn't answer it, so I thought I would enter such a race to see if an answer could be salvaged. Fortunately, I blew out my IT band in my knee while training so can never run a marathon. This is fortunate because I was soon to learn that I'd avoided many other horrible outcomes.

5 reasons not to run a marathon:

1. Bloody nipples. Friction is your nipple's arch enemy. All that rubbing leaves us all feeling sorry for you. It looks almost comical.

2. No bowel control. Go body fatigue! It's always extra runny and you want to get a good time so you keep running, but then it drips down your leg and starts filling up your shoes and thus begins the squelching. Then your foot slips on the pooh in your shoe and you twist your ankle, now you can't finish the race, and you're immobilised, covered in your own peanut butter.

3. Vomit breath. You will vomit, and it wont be enjoyable. It will be your body saying, "fuck you for the last 2 hours."

4. Bloody toes. Nom nom nom. No more shoe wearing this month, buddy.

5. No more IT band. IT bands run along your knee and are very important when bending your leg for such pastimes as brisk walks or marathon runs.  I did mine, and had to hobble around for 6 months like a damn cripple. 3 years later and it still ain't 100%.

What is rock climbing? This is rock climbing. Round 12.

I know a fair bit about rock climbing, so my gift to you today is a 5 pack of awesome climbing videos that non climbers can enjoy. I only accept badass climbers, and they all qualify easily.

Dan Osman speed climb solo - INSANE INSANE INSANE - Dan died doing a similarly hectic stunt.
Chris Sharma - Es Pontas - Deep water solo - Chris Sharma has been on the cutting edge of amazing new climbs and this is one of his finest. An enormous overhanging arch looming over the ocean with a huge 2m dyno (all limbs free jump) right in the middle. Not only was it considered the hardest climb in the world at that time but he also climbed it without a rope. Epic stuff.
Dean Potter - Free base - Mr Dean Potter is no man, he is half wild animal and half wise sage. In this video, Dean shows us that we can climb tall cliffs without a rope, and when we fall we can turn around mid air and use the parachute strapped to our back for a safe landing. Fuck dude.
Ashima Shiraishi - Bouldering - There is a great sport called bouldering where you climb 3-6m cliffs and boulders that are technically and strenuously very difficult. Ashima is considered the best female climber of this sport and she is only 12 years old. Freak.
Alex Honold - Great interview and climbing footage of the new king of free soloers.

Velociraptors and xkcd. Round 11.

If you're above average intelligence and have any appreciation for comedy, check out the comic strips at xkcd.com, some are hilarious. You will appreciate 50% more of the jokes if you have decent understanding of science or mathematics

Any who, here are 5 goodies. I loved Jurassic park so the first 3 comics make reference to this, and they're gold, maybe I watched Jurassic park too many times as a child. Hover your mouse over the comic strip to see a the second punch lime/comment.

3. Goto (Fat programmer from Jurassic park)
5. Fiction rule of thumb

Check out xkcd from time to time.

What is mixed martial arts? This is mma. Round 10.

I have 5 highlight videos of the best mixed martial arts fighters around. Jone Jones and Anderson Silva have both been undefeated since winning their respective belts in Light heavy weight and middle weight respectively. Fedor was the king of the japanese fighting league, Pride, for many years. Bar Rutten, also famous for his bar fights, had such an unusual style utilising open hand striking, slapping and liver punches.  Cro Cop may not be consider in the same league as the others, but his head kicks are awesome to watch.

4. Cro Cop
5. Bas Rutten

Happy bleeding.

2. Robocop - Bitches Leave!
3. Salvador -  Oh well.
4. She's gotta have it - Nol's men.
5. Dinner for schmucks - Mind control

Enjoy.

Amazing compilation videos. Round 7.

I have added 5 video compilations for your viewing pleasure. These all bring a smile to my face.

1. 80s dating video montage:  Pure comedy genius, these guys were all being sincere but 30 years later with a bit of good editing we have solid cheesy gold.
2. 160 of Arnold Schwarzenegger's best lines: Greatest Arnie montage ever. What a legend, he is the king of action comedy.
3. Epic Win compilation: Wins are better than fails, and this gives me hope for humanity.
4. Compilation of Anderson Silva knockouts: Anderson Silva may be the best pound for pound mma fighter of all time. That's a big statement, but after watching his speed, reflexes, accuracy and ability to read his opponent, you can hardly disagree. The guy is an expressionless killer.
5. 10 best roller coasters in the world POV cam: I have done many a extreme sports in my time and I still absolutely love how fun and accessible roller coasters are for a good rush of adrenalin. Skip the first few to about halfway.

Surf on.

The best unknown films. Round 6.

I'm running out of good movies to watch, I'd hate to put a number to how many I've watched, it would be sickening. Any who, what I bring you today are 5 A grade epic movies that most people don't know about. If you don't love 3/5 of the following movies I'll personally write you an apology. If you don't love like any of them then there's probably something particularly abnormal about you.

I've linked the title to the IMDB page and so you can watch these movies immediately, I've put a link to a page to watch the film online immediately after the title. Unfortunately there are some pop up adds initially but once you load the movie, it's uninterrupted goodness.

1. After Hours - LINK - Directed by Martin Scorsese, this film is comedy genius. You think Scorsese does gangster films expertly, well, he is a brilliant comedy director as well. This is one of the funniest films I have seen in years. It details a crazy never ending night one poor man has to endure in New York.
2. Barfly - LINK - Written by Charles Bukowski, Mickey Rourke plays (a little too well) a witty, low life yet regal drunk. It's romantic in it's ideals as Bukowski often is, but so enticing and almost makes you want to take up alcoholism and writing. PS Read Bukowsi's books now, you will love or hate him, but at least you'll have a strong opinion. Fun fact: Bukowski is the basis for the fictional character Hank Moody in Californication.
3. Moon - LINK - Duncan Jones (David Bowie's son) directed this incredibly captivsting psychological sci fi puzzle. Sam Rockwell from the recent Seven psychopaths is so good that even though he is the only character, it's always entertaining. This is a real gem, prefect hungover in bed movie.
4. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind - LINK - Hayao Miyazaki is one of Japan's greatest animation directors. You may know Spirited away. Well, folks, this is his best work and he did it in 1984. Get on it.
5. Barry Lyndon - LINK - If the link doesn't work try google searching:   "Barry Lyndon ABC".   Stanley Kubrik's first film. An absolute 3 hour epic detailing a huge portion of a man's life in 19th C Europe. This is story telling at it's finest. Absolute submersion in another man's world.

Happy camping.

Interesting blogs to read. Round 5.

Hi people of the world. I present to you 5 blogs/websites that are interesting resources for life advancement.

1.Steve Pavlina - Steve has a huge blog with many articles on interesting life experiments he has performed. My favourite articles are on passive income and articles where he reports on how he slept 20 min every 4 hours instead of regular sleep, for 6 months!!! That's 3 hours of sleep a day!
2. James Altucher - This man is a genius, I think he is the bomb, he has had so many successful companies. A great serial entrepreneur. The article I linked here is the single most helpful article on self help I have ever read. He makes everything hard in business and life seem so achievable and simple.
3. Life Hack - A great website with 50% chaff and 50% interesting shite that may be useful to you. I have linked a good article to many other resources to hack away at your life.
4. Changing minds - Very cool website with a huge database of easy to read resources on practical everyday social psychology. Check out the tabs: Techniques, principles, explanations and disciplines to see the wealth of resources on practical ways to change someone's mind about anything.
5. RooshV - A strange but unique site. Roosh is this dude that has taken it upon himself to travel around the world and learn about the women in each country, try and sleep with them and then write summaries of how good the women in that country are. He is outspoken, crude, harsh, egotistical but intelligent. Reading for the wtf factor alone is worth it.

Go learn and push forward.

Top Louis Theroux documentaries. Round 4.

Hi there, in your life you may only come to understand 30-100 different subcultures. Some sub cultures you may never experience such as being addicted to crystal meth or operating in the world of high finance. So, it's great that documentaries exist because you can immerse yourself in foreign worlds from the convenience of your own home. Louis Theroux needs no introduction to most, but I want to highlight how much further he can enquire into any subculture than any other documentary personality. Theroux is the master of innocent manipulation to get private information on almost any subject. He is also very entertaining to watch and I find myself laughing with an intensity that matches my interest in the subject matter.

There are many great episodes but a nice varied introduction to Louis Theroux would be the following 5 episodes:

1. Law an disorder in Johannesburg - Intense. Guns, live action, shocking interviews, nerve racking and dangerous scenes. My absolute favourite.
2. Louis and the Brothel - Louis spends a month at Crazy Horse, a huge brothel that has opened in Texas. He holds some very interesting interviews with the girls understanding their motives and goals. One of the main characters is incredibly intelligent and takes pleasure in playing constant mind games with Louis.
3. Louis met Paul and Debbie - A famous magician marries his 20 years younger assistant  20 years later the marriage is going strong, a very warming episode of a high profile seemingly mismatched couple that actually seem genuinely in love.
4. Swingers - Louis spends a month with some swingers and learns about their mysterious ways. Quite hilarious.
5. Body building - Louis follows an Australian body builder in LA and then pursues some female body builders. The best part of this episode is the men that love female body builders.

Enjoy. Laugh and learn.

Top stand up comedians. Round 3.

Hi sad people, cheer up with 5 of my favourite comedians. I worked hard staying up late to find these gems, so please abuse them.

1. Jim Jefferies - Australia's funniest comedian. His genius is his ability to be so incredibly offensive but still remain so honest, charming and damn likeable. Youtube stalk the man. Full act - Alcholocaust.
2. Dylan Moran - Full act 1, full act 2, full act 3 and Black books sitcom. A disgruntled Irish comedic god. He hates the world but does it with such subtle scornful witty charm that you can't help but want him as your uncle. Black books is the best British comedy series in the last 20 years. Growing up, the show made me want to never wash my hair, buy a book store and become an alcoholic (2 out of 3, I'm a realising the dream).
3. Norm MacDonald - This guy owns any room he is in. His comedy has so many layers, he reels people in and they have no idea what the fuck is going on and then he turns around drops genius comedy bombs that mess with the very structure that he has been placed in. He always sabotages interviews or TV appearances by going off on super weird tangents or just misbehaving, he bombs on purpose and loves telling long pointless stories to waste interviewers time. He also won who wants to be a millionaire. The guy is next level.
Norm winning at an interview he isn't even part of.  Who wants to be a millionaire (watch the whole thing, it's hilarious). Another interview, he owns David Spade.
4. Mitch Hedberg - King of the one liners. Innocent and brilliant but dead. Check out his compilation.\
5. Not a comedian, but the best one liner. Make sure your volume is up and full screen that shit because what he says is quiet and his mouth movement is subtle but genius.

Hope you're happy.

Fun electronic world music DJs. Round 2.

Hi world, here are 5 great DJs with a lot of depth that you can listen to hassle free on Soundcloud. They are rich, use many instruments, draw from world music, dub step, glitch hop, innovative distortion and atmospheric sound.

1. Mochipet - All his stuff on Soundcloud is wicked, diverse and always fun.
2. Beats Antique - The first two songs on Soundcloud right now are amazing and fun, also check out skeleton key.
3. Kalya Scintilla - A personal favourite for a long time, rich, chilled, glitchy dubstep with a lot of eastern/arabic theft.
4. Deru - Go straight to the album Genus and listen to the whole thing once over when your working or studying. It's all dark and atmospheric but incredibly beautiful, and very rewarding.
5. Dephicit - Slug rave mix is glitchy heaven, fun background music if you've ingested large quantities of drugs.

Get digging.

Strange and disturbing youtube videos. Round 1.

Hello and welcome to a taste of the world. For an intro, let's watch five videos that are super intense.

1. Interview with a Cannibal - INTENSE.... it get's weirder and weirder.
2. Amazing mob retribution to police brutality.
3. What a horrible person. He hates cyclists so much so, he decides to run over 20 of them.
4. The most notrious hitman in the last century, over 100 kills, no emotion, brutal honesty. The Iceman Confessions Of A Mafia Hitman.
5. Imagine this swimming at you without trying to bleed from your uterus. Mako Shark - 80 kph - swimming at you.

See you soon.
